The Rezekne municipality plans to restore a number of previously canceled benefits and voluntary initiatives for the sake of economy, as reported by the LETA agency.

Deputies supported the resumption of accepting new applications for co-financing measures to improve the energy efficiency of multi-apartment residential buildings and the landscaping of related land plots owned or leased, allocating 60,000 euros for these purposes in the 2026 budget. In addition, it is planned to resume co-financing for connecting residential buildings to centralized water supply and sewage systems, for which 20,000 euros are allocated.

In the social sphere, it is proposed to expand travel benefits in public transport to include people aged 60 and over. The aim of this initiative is to improve the mobility of elderly people and other vulnerable groups to promote their social inclusion and participation in public life.

Furthermore, it is planned to introduce a one-time allowance for newborn care. The chairman of the council, Alexander Bartashevich, explained that one of the goals for the near future is to increase this allowance to 1,000 euros.

In the area of economic development, deputies supported a voluntary initiative for implementing small business projects, providing funding to stimulate the start and development of entrepreneurship, create new jobs, and strengthen the local economy.

Additionally, it is planned to ensure co-financing for the preservation of the sacred and cultural-historical heritage of Rezekne, supporting restoration, reconstruction, and landscaping projects of cult buildings that are an important part of the city's image and its cultural space.

A total of 340,000 euros is planned to be allocated for the implementation of voluntary initiatives in 2026. The municipality notes that the restoration of initiatives will occur gradually and responsibly, taking into account target groups and achievable results while maintaining the main priority of ensuring autonomous functions and the basic responsibilities of the municipality.

The adopted draft decisions will be submitted for consideration at the Rezekne council meeting on January 19.
