This morning, snow and ice in some areas of Latvia are complicating traffic on state highways and regional roads, the LETA agency was informed by the State Joint Stock Company "Latvijas Valsts ceļi."
Snow-covered sections are being cleared and treated with anti-skid materials. To improve traffic conditions, 55 units of winter road machinery are involved in road work.
Difficult driving conditions are observed on the following sections of state highways: on the Vidzeme Highway (A2) from Rauna to Veclīcene, on the Daugavpils Highway (A6) from Jelgava to Paternieki, on the Bauska Highway (A7) from Dzintmisa to Grenctale, as well as on the Rezekne Highway (A12), the road from the Russian border (Grebnevo) – Rezekne – Daugavpils – Lithuania border (Medumi) (A13), on the Daugavpils bypass (A14) and the Rezekne bypass (A15).
On regional roads, difficult driving conditions are observed in the vicinity of Ventspils, Talsi, Tukums, Dobele, Bauska, Jekabpils, Preili, Kraslava, Rezekne, Gulbene, Balvi, Aluksne, Valmiera, Cesis, and Limbazi.
Drivers are urged to take weather conditions into account when planning trips, to allow extra time for the journey, to choose a speed appropriate to the road surface conditions, and to maintain a safe distance.
