At least until the beginning of February, the air temperature in Latvia will remain below normal, according to current weather forecasts, writes LETA.
According to data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, Latvia will be colder than usual for the next three weeks. After January 20, a strong frost from Siberia may come to the country — in some places, the air temperature may drop to -30 degrees.
In the coming nights, especially in the eastern regions of the country, during clearings, the thermometer may drop slightly below -20 degrees.
It is expected that in the second half of January, there will be little precipitation, and the sun will shine often. More intense snowfall and blizzards are forecasted for the evening of January 14 and the night of January 15 in Western Latvia, starting from the southern coast of Kurzeme.
This January is likely to become the coldest in Latvia since 2016 or even since 2010.
