Christmas Tree, Hurry Up! Threw Away the Tree Too Late? - The Whole House Will Pay

After the holidays, the tree quickly transforms from a festive attribute into a problem. And while removing the decorations is straightforward — just take them off and put them away — the nuances of disposal begin, for which one later has to pay real money.

In Riga, three companies are responsible for waste collection, and each has its own rules. It’s not difficult to find out which one services your building: the name is indicated on the monthly bill and on the trash containers themselves. But as is known, ignorance does not save from additional expenses.

How to properly dispose of a Christmas tree to avoid unpleasant surprises later:

  • completely remove all ornaments and garlands;
  • if the tree was grown in a pot, take it out of the pot;
  • if the height exceeds 2 meters, the tree must be cut — otherwise, it will be taken away, but for a fee;
  • leave the tree next to the container or at the waste collection site.

The key point is the deadlines, which many remember too late.

When the tree is still accepted for free:

  • Eco Baltia vide — until January 19;
  • Clean R — until January 20;
  • Lautus Vide — until January 31.

After these dates, the New Year’s tree suddenly stops being “free.” Of course, it will be taken away, but the bill will be sent to the building. And the amounts no longer look festive:

  • Eco Baltia vide — 6 euros for one tree;
  • Clean R — 5 euros for a tree;
  • Lautus Vide — half the rate for unsorted household waste.

The irony is that the payment will not be made by the specific owner of the tree, but by the entire building — through shared expenses. This means that one forgotten tree can spoil the mood of several neighbors at once.
