Tragedy in Kuldiga: An 8th Grader Committed Suicide

An 8th grader from the Vilis Pludonis Secondary School in Kuldiga, Rūta, reportedly committed suicide earlier this week, according to an article published in the local newspaper Kurzemnieks and expressed condolences.

The article "Much Remains Unanswered" in the newspaper Kurzemnieks states: "This week, Kuldiga was shaken by the news of a tragedy – an eighth grader took her own life. This is evidenced by the condolences from Rūta's relatives published in the newspaper. (...) The tragically deceased girl was a student in the 8th grade at the Vilis Pludonis Secondary School in Kuldiga — this was confirmed to the publication by the principal, Agnese Karkliņa: "Yes, a tragedy occurred, but I will refrain from saying anything until I have clarity and official information myself." Teacher Aiga Lagzdiņa also confirmed that the tragedy involved a student from her class, but acknowledged that she does not feel able to say anything about the situation at this time. Condolences to the family of the deceased girl, her friends, classmates, teachers, and everyone who was close to her daily were expressed by the head of the Kuldiga Education Department, Santa Dubure. Currently, a psychologist is working at the school, providing support to both children and teachers. Information from the State Police indicates that on January 6 at around 06:15, a report was received that the body of a minor girl was found in one of the properties in Kuldiga. A criminal process has been initiated, and the circumstances of the death are being investigated. The information available to the police currently does not indicate that a crime was committed against the girl.
