A run dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center will take place. Riga, January 10, LETA. On January 21 at 10:00 AM, a run dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center will be held at the Children's Clinical University Hospital (BKUS), reports BKUS.
Patients, their relatives, staff of the children's hospital, and other interested parties are invited to participate in the run.
BKUS notes that being a parent of a child suffering from epilepsy or other health issues requires great endurance and emotional strength. Therefore, the run is designed as a way to momentarily shift the focus onto oneself. Physical activity outdoors helps reduce stress and recharge the "internal batteries" necessary for everyday care of the child's health, the institution emphasizes.
The hospital highlights that epilepsy is not an obstacle to an active lifestyle and that physical activity is one of the cornerstones of improving sleep quality.
Those wishing to participate in the run are invited to gather at 9:45 AM at the outpatient health center of the Children's Hospital. The start of the run is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
As explained by BKUS, the result of the run and the time are secondary. Although the goal of the run is 10 kilometers, the distance can be adapted to the abilities of each runner. One lap around the territory of the Children's Hospital is approximately 1 kilometer, and everyone can choose how many laps to run and when to finish the run. The institution encourages participants to be attentive, exercise caution on the road surface, and stop the run immediately if fatigue or discomfort arises, emphasizing that the main thing in the event is participation and a sense of community.
The Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center at BKUS was established in January 2016 with the aim of promoting the development of epileptology and sleep medicine in the Children's Hospital and in Latvia. The center is engaged in the detection, treatment, and prevention of epilepsy and sleep disorders, as well as scientific research.
