Only about thirty people protested against the kidnapping of Maduro's spouses at the Riga Castle

On Friday, about 30 people gathered at the Riga Castle for the protest "Hands off Venezuela", reported the LETA agency. The protesters came with flags of Venezuela, Latvia, the European Union, and Ukraine.

The gathered participants chanted various slogans, including: "Hands off Venezuela!", "President, get it together, remember your role!", "The USA colonizes, Europe ignores!".

In the hands of the protesters were placards with inscriptions: "No Maduro, no Trump!", "Where is international law?", "Who will be next? Colombia? Greenland?".

Nearby, people with flags of the USA and Latvia watched the participants of the action closely. However, there were no clashes. Law enforcement agencies ensured safety at the protest site.

The event was organized by the public center "Maiznīca", with informational support from the youth organizations "Protests" and "Jaunie Eiropas federālisti" ("Young European Federalists").

Earlier, the organizers stated that the protest was held to condemn "the imperialist aggression of the USA against Venezuela" and to urge the Latvian government to apply international law equally to all.

They emphasized that they consistently condemn the systematic violations of human rights and the undermining of democracy by the regime of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, but at the same time believe that these crimes do not justify "gross violations of international law by NATO countries, including military actions and detentions without the appropriate international mandate".

It was previously reported that on Saturday, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured during a US military operation and taken to New York, where they are expected to be tried on criminal charges related to drug trafficking to the United States.
