On Thursday morning, traffic conditions on state roads are difficult in the vicinity of Riga, as well as in some parts of Vidzeme and Latgale, according to summarized information from the State Joint Stock Company "Latvijas valsts ceļi" (Latvian State Roads), reports LETA.
Overall, the situation on major highways on Thursday morning was better than in the first three days of this week.
Around 6:50 AM, traffic was difficult in the vicinity of the capital on the Riga bypass road, as well as on major highways within several dozen kilometers of Riga.
There are several slippery sections on the Vidzeme and Valmiera highways, and a similar situation is observed on major roads in the vicinity of Jelgava and slightly further east — towards Rezekne and Daugavpils. In the rest of Latgale, traffic conditions on state roads are satisfactory.
Traffic is difficult on regional roads throughout Latvia, except in the areas of Bauska, Kuldiga, and Smiltene.
A total of 38 units of winter special equipment were involved in the cleaning and salting of snowy and slippery road sections on Thursday morning.
