The Health Inspection has begun an investigation into the hospital leave of the injured mayor of Ogre in Ukraine

The Health Inspection (IZ) has begun an investigation into the validity of the hospital leave of the chairman of the Ogre City Council, Egils Helmanis, the LETA agency was informed by the inspection.

The inspection has reached out to medical institutions and doctors requesting the necessary medical documents. The inspection did not specify when the application required to initiate the investigation was received.

Previously, the inspection stated that an application from an individual is necessary to conduct such an investigation, but no such application has been made. The Health Inspection does not conduct verifications of the validity of hospital leaves on its own initiative.

When filing a complaint regarding the issuance of a hospital leave, the individual must indicate the circumstances that raise doubts about the validity of the document.

As reported, Helmanis did not complete the questionnaire required for access to state secrets within the established timeframe. He has been on hospital leave since August 5 of last year, after returning from a humanitarian mission in Ukraine, where he was injured.
