For humanitarian reasons, 31 migrants were accepted in Latvia last year.

In 2024, 5,388 attempts to illegally cross the border were prevented, and 26 individuals were allowed to remain in Latvia for humanitarian reasons.

As reported, the government has decided to extend the enhanced border security regime at the border with Belarus until June 30, 2026. The enhanced regime is in effect in Ludza and the Ludza region, Kraslava and the municipalities of the Kraslava region, in the Augšdaugava region, Daugavpils, and the Kaunata municipality of the Rezekne region.
