Former politician Maris Gulbis lamented the strong stratification of society during a discussion on TV-24. "If in Iceland, where only 350,000 people live, the middle class makes up 80 percent, then here our middle class is, I think, about 20 percent. There continues to be a very strong stratification of society and a powerful middle layer is still not forming," said M. Gulbis, reminding about the high inflation that only exacerbates the stratification. "Now the excise tax on fuel is being raised again, which means everything will become more expensive again," the former politician logically suggested.
