Nearly 45 million euros in cash declared upon crossing the Latvian border

In the first nine months of this year, 453 cash declarations totaling 44.644 million euros were submitted to customs upon crossing the Latvian border, according to aggregated data from the State Revenue Service (SRS), reports LETA.

Compared to the corresponding period last year, the number of declarations submitted decreased by 123 in the first nine months of 2025; however, the total declared amount increased by 18.27 million euros, or 69.3%.

In particular, in the first nine months of 2025, 210 declarations were submitted upon entering Latvia for a total of 20.526 million euros, and 243 declarations were submitted upon leaving Latvia for a total of 24.118 million euros.

According to the State Revenue Service (SRS), in the first nine months of 2024, 576 cash declarations were submitted upon crossing the Latvian border, totaling 26.372 million euros.

The requirement for individuals to declare cash amounts of 10,000 euros or more at the external border of the European Union has been in effect since July 1, 2006. Furthermore, since July 1, 2019, there has been an obligation to declare cash amounts of 10,000 euros or more at the internal border of the European Union as well.
