“They quietly tremble and die! They seek warmth, but people walk by” - woman made residents of Riga cry

Winter has arrived, and the temperature on the thermometer has dropped below zero. For whom is this akin to death? A resident of Riga wrote a post on the social network Facebook.

A resident wrote a post in the "Kengarags" group about homeless animals with the following content: "The first attractive snowfall for homeless animals is a trial for their paws... And for survival! Those without a home hide in doorways, near warm pipes, and under benches. They tremble not from fear, but from the cold that penetrates to the bone... Often, when approaching people, they are simply looking for a bit of warmth... but instead, they see a closed door. Let's change this 🙏 💛

Sometimes it takes just a little: let an animal in to warm up in the doorway, leave some warm food, foster or give a home — and someone's little heart will beat a little longer. ❤️ Winter is a challenge not only for street animals but also for our humanity. Remember: even the smallest gesture can save the life of a homeless animal! Open the door to those who cannot ask with words."

Comments:

  • "You made us cry. Tears are falling. After all, homeless animals do not come from outer space; they are often thrown out onto the street by adults. This is a question of our humanity and the education system. Kindness depends on each of us. People, be kinder!"

  • "People, in Riga, one of the mayors ordered access to basements for cats in winter. And we have several cat lovers in our building, each with several cats. So we feed them, and the homeless have access to the basement, and I allow them to live in the doorway by the radiator. And we put the nasty ones who don’t like animals in their place."

  • "In Daugavpils, I feed the street cats. There is a heat pipe and a small hole for the cat to climb in and warm up. But new tenants with a cat have appeared, and this cat beats and chases my cats. So besides this, she sits on this heat pipe all day and night. And my poor cats sit outside or under cars in the rain and frost and freeze. What to do in such a situation? Help, my heart bleeds when they sit and freeze."

  • "Let the cats into the basements, or over time, rats, mice, and snakes will fill the houses, basements, and apartments. Open the doorways, and thieves and strangers won’t enter your apartment or the doorway. Give a little warmth to the animals, and they will repay you the same."

  • "We let a cat into the doorway. 8 out of 10 residents were against it, and one scumbag beat the cat and threw it out of the doorway. That’s how we let it in. I went to people for help and ended up with inhumans."

  • "In Ukraine, there is a law that animals are considered part of the ecosystem, basements for animals are official, BUT who cares."

  • "As a rule, there is at least one jerk in every doorway who is against animals!!!"

  • "In Minsk, they also boarded up all the basements, claiming fleas from the cats!? There are 1000 species of fleas; they spread from sand and dirt. And people haven’t been going into the basements for decades, not cleaning them, and that’s where the fleas come from!"

  • "I laid bedding in a crack for a kitten, and a gang of 5 adult female inhumans living in this house pulled out the bedding and threw it away. What kind of people are these in their old age, living long but not gaining any sense and not turning into humans?"

  • "I feel very sorry for the defenseless, silent animals. God tests us through them; be more merciful, and you will also be helped in difficult times."
