On December 23 and 24, a drop in temperature is expected in Latvia, followed by variable weather, according to the current forecast from the Global Forecast System.
On the pre-holiday Saturday, rain is expected, while on Sunday, rain will only occur in some areas of Vidzeme and Latgale, with temperatures reaching +2 to +7 degrees. On Monday, it will be a couple of degrees colder, with brief precipitation expected in some places.
On Tuesday, colder and drier air is expected to arrive in Latvia from the northeast, with frost possible across the country in the evening. There will be little snow.
On December 24, sunny weather is possible, and temperatures in some areas in the east of the country may drop below -10 degrees; however, on the first day of Christmas, a thaw is possible on the coast, and snow may fall in many places in Latvia.
Further on, periodic precipitation and fluctuations in air temperature are also forecasted, but stable frost is expected in the eastern part of the country.
According to the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, temperatures in Latvia for Christmas and New Year are expected to be about two degrees below normal. Winter weather conditions are forecasted for most of January.
