Political scientist Juris Rosenvalds stated in the program "Open Conversation" on LR4 that a special political system has formed in Latvia in recent years, referred to as ethnic democracy.
"This system is referred to in literature as ethnic democracy; it generally operates on the mechanisms of representative democracy, where there are some liberal principles, but at the same time it is clearly stated that the state belongs to one ethnicity, and this ethnicity is the holder of the shares of this state. All others are somewhat suspicious by definition," explains Rosenvalds.
