The current salary increase schedule for teachers is in effect until December 31 of this year, writes Diena.
The Ministry of Education and Science (MES) has developed a further schedule until 2030, which provides for an increase in the average monthly salary of teachers to a level 2.5 times higher than the established minimum wage in the country. A new schedule for increasing teachers' salaries is required starting January 1, 2026, as stipulated by the education law.
As emphasized by the ministry, although no salary increase is planned for the entire public sector in 2026, teachers' salaries will rise because additional funding for these purposes has already been allocated for the coming years under the new funding model "Program in School." In 2026, an additional 45 million euros is planned, in 2027 - more than 90.5 million euros, and in 2028 - over 86.5 million euros. Thus, the average monthly salary of teachers in the coming years will be 20% higher than the minimum wage.
In developing the new schedule, the MES considered various options. The optimal solution, in the ministry's opinion, could be to tie the salary increase schedule to the established minimum monthly wage in the country within the framework of normal working hours.
Changes are expected to be introduced annually starting January 1, 2027, increasing the minimum wage for teachers by 5.75%. This means that with a workload of 40 hours per week, a teacher's salary will be 1,656 euros, and the minimum hourly rate will be 10.35 euros. In 2028, they will increase to 10.94 euros and 1,751 euros, in 2029 to 11.57 euros and 1,852 euros, and in 2030 to 12.24 euros and 1,958 euros. A 5.75% annual increase from 2027 is also planned for the salaries of academic staff - professors, associate professors, assistant professors, lecturers, and assistants.
The additional funding required for the increase will amount to 51.15 million euros in 2027, 105.01 million euros in 2028, 161.98 million euros in 2029, and 222.22 million euros in 2030.
