The Riga municipality will consider the possibility of organizing ferry service between Vecmilgravis and Boldere.
The Riga City Council's Urban Development Committee today decided to forward the residents' initiative for the creation of a ferry line to the Department of Urban Development for consideration.
At the committee meeting, Deputy Vyacheslav Stepanenko (SV/OM) urged support for this initiative, noting that currently, during peak hours, it takes two hours to travel from one district to another by public transport, while the ferry would only take 15 minutes.
According to the politician, ferry service between Vecmilgravis and Boldere would solve the mobility issues for residents of the two major districts of Riga.
As reported by the LETA agency, 2850 residents signed a collective petition regarding the ferry service. After verification, 2331 signatures were deemed valid.
Residents have approached the local government with a request to ensure regular ferry service on the Vecmilgravis-Boldere route.
