A third of residents do not plan to celebrate Lāčplēsis Day — survey

On November 11th, various events dedicated to Lāčplēsis Day take place throughout Latvia. A survey conducted by the TV3 program "900 Seconds" revealed how residents plan to celebrate this day.

Among residents of Latvia aged 18 to 65, the most popular way to celebrate Lāčplēsis Day has become lighting a candle or candles — this was the response of 25% of those surveyed. Some respondents (19%) will spend this day at home with family or friends. Less frequently, Lāčplēsis Day is planned to be celebrated by participating in a torch procession (10%), laying candles at memorial sites in their region (8%), attending a concert dedicated to this day (7%), laying candles at the wall of the Riga Castle on November 11th (5%), or participating in another memorial event (4%).

The least popular forms of participation were visiting an event organized by the National Armed Forces Headquarters at the Freedom Monument (1%), visiting a museum or exhibition (1%), and participating in a worship service (1%).

1% of respondents indicated that they would be working on Lāčplēsis Day, while 3% plan to celebrate it in another way.

Almost a third of those surveyed (32%) stated that they do not intend to celebrate Lāčplēsis Day.

8% of survey participants did not provide a specific answer to this question.
