On November 11, on Lāčplēsis Day, state flags are displayed on houses in Latvia – the country honors the memory of fallen participants in the struggle for independence.
On November 11, 1919, Latvia successfully resisted the advance of Bermont's troops towards Riga. This day was decided to be considered a historical memorial date in 1989, and since 1990, November 11 has become the Day of Remembrance for Fallen Warriors.
On November 18, 2009, the "Law on the State Flag of Latvia" came into effect, which stipulates that the state flag of Latvia is used in cases established by law and other regulations with due respect. It is prohibited to use damaged, faded, dirty, or otherwise non-compliant flags.
The state flag must be raised no later than 09:00 and lowered no earlier than 21:00.
