Rīgas ūdens reports that it has equipped the first 500 apartment and private houses with remote reading devices for water meters, Otkrito.lv writes. The first areas where work has been carried out are Purvciems and Sarkanaugava, with others to follow shortly.
As part of the first phase of the Sadales tikls project commissioned by Rīgas ūdens, nearly 700 water meters in Purvciems and almost 350 in Sarkanaugava will be equipped with remote reading devices. These areas were chosen for a more efficient modernization of regions with a high number of apartment buildings. The first 500 facilities have already been equipped with new systems, and the work has officially been handed over to Rīgas ūdens, while parallel work has begun at facilities in Ziepniekkalns, Vecmilgravis, Čiekurkalns, and Teika.
For residents of apartment buildings, the procedure for submitting readings to service companies remains the same for now, as telemetry solutions are being implemented only for the incoming meters of the facility, that is, up to the boundary where the Rīgas ūdens network ownership ends. This means that the overall water consumption figures for the building will be read automatically, but the management of internal networks and apartment meters will continue to be the responsibility of the owners and managers.
Moreover, as previously reported by Otkrito.lv from the press service of Rīgas ūdens, residents will not have to pay for the new devices. These are large incoming water meters that monitor consumption for the entire building, rather than for each individual apartment. Rīgas ūdens will cover these costs.
However, apartment owners must arrange a water metering node through the management company, where this smart meter will be installed. In most buildings, such nodes have long been organized.
