After Lithuania began closing its border with Belarus, residents of that country started returning home by car and bus through Latvia. After Latvia introduced the electronic queue at its borders, this process has significantly accelerated.

According to Belarusian media, immediately after the launch of the electronic queue, it was possible to leave Latvia for Belarus no earlier than a week later, but gradually this queue has dissolved, and now there are available slots for departure on the same day. If earlier there were 55 slots per day, now there are almost 150.

Belarusians are also reminded that new entry rules for Latvia have been in effect since September 1. A foreigner is required to fill out a questionnaire no later than 48 hours before crossing the border. If there is no questionnaire, they could theoretically face a fine of up to 2000 euros and deportation. This also applies to transit through Latvia when entering from Estonia and Lithuania.

The second important circumstance is that there continues to be a complete ban on the passage of vehicles with Belarusian license plates in Latvia. Therefore, not everyone can fill out the questionnaire 48 hours in advance and leave through Latvia without a queue - the car must not be registered in Belarus or Russia.

As previously reported by Otkrito.lv, Lithuania promised to close the border with Belarus due to balloons with contraband - an exception will be made only for diplomats and EU citizens.
