Several trains from the Jelgava railway station will depart a few minutes earlier on weekdays starting Monday, October 27, the LETA agency reports, citing the joint-stock company "Pasažieru vilciens" (PV).
The changes are related to the repair work on the railway tracks being carried out by the state-owned company "Latvijas dzelzceļš" (LDz) at the Cena station.
The adjustments will affect a total of five trips on the Jelgava–Riga route, including three morning and two evening trips. Trains will depart one to two minutes earlier.
At the same time, the train schedule on the Olaine–Riga section will remain unchanged, and all trains will arrive in Riga at the usual time.
Additionally, due to the modernization of the electrified network, starting Sunday, October 26, diesel trains will operate on the Jelgava line instead of the first and last electric trains. These trips will arrive at their destination later than before.
Thus, on the Riga–Jelgava route, starting Sunday, October 26, a diesel train will operate instead of the electric train departing from Riga at 23:35, arriving in Jelgava 15 minutes later — at 00:35. And starting Monday, October 27, on the Jelgava–Riga route, a diesel train will operate instead of the electric train, departing from Jelgava five minutes later — at 04:44, and arriving in Riga 18 minutes later — at 05:43.
It was previously reported that last year, a total of 19.445 million passengers were transported by rail in Latvia — 13.5% more than in 2023 and 5.3% more than before the pandemic, that is, in 2019.
The joint-stock company "Pasažieru vilciens" was established in 2001 by separating domestic passenger transport from the functions of the "Latvijas dzelzceļš" enterprise. Previously, PV was 100% a subsidiary of "Latvijas dzelzceļš", but in October 2008, it was transformed into a state-owned enterprise.
