Check-in, baggage drop, security check — all these stages at the airport can already be stressful. But, as passengers say, the new boarding system introduced by airBaltic has only exacerbated the situation.
One social media user described the situation as follows: "The new boarding system from airBaltic: some guy at the boarding gate is shouting out numbers, everyone is crowding, no one understands whose number it is now — complete chaos!"
Recall: since October 6, the national airline of Latvia, airBaltic, has begun implementing a new boarding procedure by groups. Now each group will be indicated on the boarding pass, and passengers will be able to board only when their group is announced.
First to board the aircraft are passengers in the "Early Boarding" group — these are families with children, unaccompanied minors, and people who require special assistance.
Next is the first group — business class, members of the airBaltic Club VIP and Executive programs.
Following them are passengers in the second group — holders of Economy Flex tickets, corporate clients, and those who have paid for additional carry-on luggage.
After that, the third, fourth, and fifth groups are invited on board — in the order determined based on available seats in the cabin.
The airline explains that the goal of the new system is to reduce crowding at the boarding gate and ensure a calmer start to the flight. However, judging by passenger feedback, the effect has so far been the opposite.
