The State Fire and Rescue Service received 55 calls related to the consequences of strong winds on Sunday from 10:00 to 12:30, the agency reported.

In most cases, it was necessary to saw the fallen trees. Mainly, the trees fell onto the roadway, blocking traffic, and in many cases posed a threat as they were dangerously broken and could fall on residential houses or roads.

In two cases, fallen trees collapsed onto residential houses. There were also calls when falling trees hit power lines.

Most calls were registered in Riga, Jurmala, as well as in the regions of Ropaži, Mārupe, and Ogre. Dispatchers are currently continuing to receive calls about the consequences of the strong wind, and active work is underway to eliminate the damage.

In Riga, trees are falling due to strong winds. If the wind causes damage that threatens the life and health of people, as well as disrupts the operation of communications or public transport, call the emergency services at the unified emergency number 112!

If significant damage has been caused to a house or yard, call the RNP emergency hotline at 8000 8989.

We urge you to be cautious and take care of yourself and your property: • Do not leave items on balconies and in yards that could be carried away by the wind; • Do not leave windows open; • If possible, do not park vehicles under trees that may fall; • Charge mobile devices, as power supply disruptions may occur in windy weather.
