Who should not consume even a little alcohol: psychiatrist names high-risk groups
Even small doses of alcohol can pose a serious danger to some people. This was stated by psychiatrist-narcologist Ruslan Isaev.
According to the specialist, there are several categories of people who should completely refrain from alcohol or exercise maximum caution.
First and foremost, this concerns children and adolescents. During the period of growth and development, alcohol can negatively affect the formation of the nervous system and the functioning of the brain.
The consumption of alcohol during pregnancy is equally dangerous. As the doctor noted, alcohol can disrupt the normal development of the fetus and increase the risk of various complications.
Particular attention should be paid to alcohol consumption by people with cardiovascular diseases, liver, and pancreas conditions. In these cases, even small doses of alcohol can worsen health and provoke a disease exacerbation.
A separate risk group consists of patients taking medications. Alcohol can alter the effects of many drugs, including antidepressants, tranquilizers, painkillers, medications for diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
For people suffering from alcohol dependence, even a minimal amount of alcohol poses a danger. According to Isaev, one dose of alcohol can lead to a relapse and a return to the previous lifestyle.
Additionally, there are genetic factors that cause the bodies of some individuals to process ethanol poorly. As a result, the toxic effects of alcohol are more pronounced.
The specialist also reminded that current scientific data do not confirm the existence of a completely safe dose of alcohol.
According to the doctor, the most reliable way to avoid alcohol-related risks remains complete abstinence from its consumption.
