During the trial regarding Diego Maradona's death, his eldest daughter Dalma stated that the medical team failed to provide the promised care for her father during home treatment and committed serious violations.
The hearings in the case of Diego Maradona's death continue in the court of the Argentine city of San Isidro. The footballer's eldest daughter, Dalma Maradona, gave an emotional testimony, accusing the medical team of negligence.
According to her, the family agreed to home hospitalization after the surgery to remove a hematoma only because the doctors promised to provide round-the-clock monitoring, necessary equipment, and constant readiness of an ambulance.
However, Dalma claims that these conditions were not met in practice. She recounted that once relatives asked to call an ambulance for Maradona, but it turned out that there was no available vehicle.
"No one took control of the situation," the footballer's daughter stated.
She paid special attention to neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, whom she called the main person responsible for her father's treatment. Also among the key members of the medical team were psychiatrist Agustina Cosachova and psychologist Carlos Diaz.
A total of seven medical workers are involved in the case. They are charged with criminal negligence, which, according to the investigation, could have led to Maradona's death. If found guilty, the defendants face up to 25 years in prison.
Diego Maradona himself passed away on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60 during home rehabilitation after surgery. The cause of death was a cardiorespiratory crisis against the background of pulmonary edema.
The defense insists that the legendary footballer's death was a result of his severe health condition and numerous chronic diseases. The prosecution, however, believes that the conditions of home treatment did not correspond to his state.
The court will have to determine whether the actions or inactions of the medical team could have influenced the death of one of the greatest footballers in history. Dalma Maradona's testimony has become one of the most resonant during the entire trial.
