Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher is preparing for his wedding to his partner Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne. The ceremony will take place in Saint-Tropez and will be part of the filming of a documentary series about the couple's life.
Former German Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher and his partner Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne are hosting a wedding in Saint-Tropez. Schumacher is 50 years old, and his future spouse is 36, hailing from France.
"It’s a big plus that we don’t speak the same language," Bousquet-Cassagne told the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung. "In English and German, I don’t know all the insults that could be thrown at each other," he added.
"That doesn’t mean it’s not romantic, but you can’t say that someone got down on one knee in front of the other," Schumacher himself told the dpa agency about the decision to marry. He made the comments ahead of the release of the four-part documentary series "Ralf & Étienne: Wir sagen Ja" ("Ralf and Étienne, we say 'Yes'"), which will air on May 21 on Sky.

According to the couple, the idea of the wedding mostly came from their surroundings, as friends often asked them when it would happen. Bousquet-Cassagne also described the wedding as a logical step: "We always talked about marriage and even set a date, but we somehow just forgot about that idea."
In their statement, Ralf Schumacher and Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming wedding but asked for respect for their privacy: "We are happy to confirm that Ralf Schumacher and his partner Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne will marry. Both are very grateful for the numerous congratulations. Ralf and Étienne will not comment on their personal lives and thank you for respecting their privacy."
During the three-day celebration, television cameras will constantly follow the couple. "On one hand, it’s something very personal, and on the other hand, it’s completely normal," Schumacher, the former Formula 1 driver, said at the series presentation in Munich. According to him, the documentary is an "opportunity to show how we live" and to dispel "certain prejudices."
