Latvia's representative at the Eurovision contest, Atvara, admitted that after winning the national selection Supernova, her life changed so much that fans now recognize her even without her stage persona — in an ordinary supermarket.

During an interview on the red carpet at the Eurovision opening ceremony, the singer shared that until recently she did not consider herself a famous artist, but over the past year her popularity in Latvia has skyrocketed.

“I wasn’t a big artist before, and then in just one year everything exploded,” said Atvara, adding that during this time she managed to hold 24 sold-out concerts in Latvia.

According to the singer, after winning Supernova, public attention became constant.

“Now I go into a store, and people immediately say: ‘Oh my God, can I have a photo?’” she said.

Atvara also shared a funny episode: once a girl in a café told her that she looked a lot like the singer Atvara, not recognizing the artist without makeup.

“I asked: ‘Which one exactly?’ And then I said that it was me. She was shocked,” the performer recalled with laughter.

The singer admitted that the atmosphere at Eurovision turned out to be much friendlier than she expected. According to her, the participants quickly found common ground, and communicating with other artists helps to cope with stress before the semi-final.

“I feel like we’re just a group of friends trying to put on the best performance,” noted Atvara.

The performer also mentioned that for the competition, it was necessary to partially change the staging of the number — in particular, to rework the scenes with the girl’s silhouette and some movements on stage. At the same time, the singer clarified that real people, not drawings, are used in the video projections.

Speaking about how she manages to relax during the tense competition days, the artist confessed that she values the tranquility in her hotel room and the opportunity to take a bath the most.

“If I have my space, silence, and a bath — I’m happy,” said Atvara.

The Eurovision semi-final, in which the representative of Latvia will perform, will take place in the coming days.

Let us remind you, Atvara will perform in the second semi-final of Eurovision on May 14 at 22:00.

A total of 35 countries are participating in the competition, but after two semi-finals, only 25 participants will advance to the final.

The main show will take place on May 16.
