Latvian singer left her homeland and moved to Vietnam

Singer Katrina Gupalo, along with her husband Edgar Vilcans, took a leap into the unknown last year and unexpectedly moved to Vietnam, as stated in an article in the publication “Privātā Dzīve.”

“In recent years, living in Riga, I would wake up almost every night if I heard any sound outside. I felt anxious until I figured out what it was — whether it was an alarm siren,” said Gupalo, whose ancestral roots trace back to war-torn Ukraine, writes nra.lv. And at some point, she realized that radical changes were necessary. Katrina, along with her husband Edgar Vilcans, moved to live in Asia, specifically Vietnam.

Living there, she was able to achieve several goals at once. She is developing vocally as a singer, improving her physical fitness, and enjoying leisure time in an exotic environment.

“My everyday life is filled with music, exercise, and generating ideas. I give myself time; I don’t want to rush anything. I want my creative fantasies to fully mature before they are realized. I don’t live by any specific daily schedule — rather, I go with the flow, feeling my body and spirit. If I have a lot of energy, the day is filled with discoveries, workouts, and events, but if I don’t feel great, I allow myself to rest and be lazy,” Gupalo shares about her daily life.

From the very first hours in Vietnam, it became clear to her that she was in a completely different world. “When you are a tourist, you can admire or be horrified by something, and then — eventually — leave. Living here, you have to accept the local culture, habits, and get used to the chaotic and congested traffic. Due to air pollution, I started wearing a mask in my daily life and rinsing my nose with saline,” Katrina explains.

In July, they plan to come to Latvia — full of impressions and with the understanding that life can be different.
