Vitamin in Beer: An Unexpected Conclusion by Scientists — But There’s a Catch

German researchers have found that popular types of beer contain vitamin B6, with one serving potentially covering up to 20% of the daily norm. However, specialists warn that this is not a reason to consider the beverage beneficial for regular consumption.

German scientists have discovered that popular types of beer contain vitamin B6. However, experts note that this does not make the beverage necessary for regular consumption.

Vitamin in a Glass: What Conclusions Did German Scientists Reach?

The results showed that the vitamin B6 content in beer depends on the type of beverage. The highest levels were recorded in strong German beer (Bockbier), followed by lagers, dark lagers, and wheat beer. The lowest amount of vitamin was found in rice varieties.

The study also confirmed that even non-alcoholic beer can contain this vitamin, as it is partially retained after the fermentation process.

According to the data obtained, 1 liter of beer contains between 0.3 and 1 mg of vitamin B6. One serving of lager can cover up to 20% of the daily requirement, while some non-alcoholic options can cover up to 59%.

Where Does Vitamin B6 in Beer Come From?

The source of the vitamin is the raw materials used in the production of the beverage. This includes barley, wheat, and brewing yeast. During the fermentation process, this element is not completely destroyed, so it is partially preserved in the final product.

However, specialists warn against hasty conclusions about the benefits of beer. Dietitian Bridget Benelam explains, "Alcoholic beverages should not be considered a source of nutrients. Vitamins are better obtained from regular food."

Despite the presence of vitamins, beer remains an alcoholic beverage with potential health risks, writes bb.lv. Experts advise obtaining necessary substances from a balanced diet, and to approach alcohol consumption moderately or avoid it altogether.

Excessive alcohol consumption harms the cardiovascular system, liver, and nervous system, so it should be consumed wisely or avoided altogether.
