Banksy Confirms Authorship of New Sculpture in Central London

The anonymous street artist Banksy has acknowledged that he created the provocative statue of a man with a flag, balancing on the brink of falling. The work, which appeared in the St. James's area, immediately sparked discussions and interpretations among the public and experts.

The anonymous British street artist Banksy has confirmed that he is the creator of the statue of a man with a flag, poised to fall from its pedestal, which appeared earlier this week in central London.

On the morning of April 29, a new statue was spotted in central London with the signature of the anonymous artist Banksy. The sculpture depicts a man in a suit taking a step off a pedestal, with his face obscured by a flag.

This was reported by the BBC.

According to representatives of Banksy, the statue was installed on the night of April 29. The next day, a video of the installation process was posted on the artist's Instagram page.

James Peek, the host of the BBC podcast The Banksy Story, noted that Banksy "pulled off another fantastic stunt."

"The location is impressive. I don’t know how he managed it. He delivered a low-loader trailer, bypassing all security, and installed a huge polymer statue," Peek said.

Commenters on Banksy's Instagram page speculated that the work is dedicated to "blind patriotism" and wondered how the artist managed to pull off such a stunt "in the very heart of the British establishment."

Banksy, who is referred to as an underground street artist, keeps his identity a closely guarded secret. He occasionally uses Instagram to confirm authorship of his works.

The new installation, created in the style of classical monuments and placed among the monuments of Edward VII, Florence Nightingale, and Sidney Herbert, enhances the contrast between tradition and contemporary expression. Like many of Banksy's works, it remains open to interpretation — from criticism of "blind patriotism" to reflections on the fragility of societal norms, writes bb.lv.
