A grand premiere is being prepared on the main stage of the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater! On April 16, audiences will be immersed in the world of 'Marriage Italian Style' – a play inspired by the immortal work of Eduardo De Filippo, 'Filumena Marturano'. The talented Irina Pakhomova is the director, and it is already known that the production promises to be a true event. The theater's press service proudly announced: 'On April 16, 2026, at 19:00, the premiere of the play “Marriage Italian Style” based on Eduardo De Filippo's play will take place on the main stage of the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater, directed by Irina Pakhomova. The leading roles will be played by the incomparable, star duo – the artistic director of the ROSTA Theater in Tsaritsyno, Honored Artist of Russia Nonna Grishaeva, and theater and film actor Dmitry Frid.' This captivating production is based on a masterpiece of 20th-century Italian literature, which gained worldwide fame thanks to the cult film adaptation by Vittorio De Sica. Irina Pakhomova's play immerses the audience in eternal themes: sincere love, human dignity, and unshakeable family values. According to the authors' concept, this is a poignant story about a strong woman who, despite years of waiting and struggle, managed to maintain her faith in love and radically change her fate. The premiere will be a double celebration, as it coincides with two significant events: the 95th anniversary of the theater, which was grandly celebrated in October 2025, and the upcoming anniversary of Nonna Grishaeva, which will take place in the summer of 2026. The theater emphasizes that this new production is not just a gift to the audience, but also a special present for the artist herself, as the role of Filumena Marturano has always been her long-held creative dream. Special attention is given to dynamic scenography, expressive plastic solutions, and subtle musical elements that create an unparalleled atmosphere of Italian passions. The visual design of the play was crafted by set designer Akinf Belov, while the exquisite costumes were created by Natalia Spasskaya.## Actors' OpinionsNonna Grishaeva shared with TASS journalists that the play reveals many layers of conflict that intertwine in the heroine's fate. 'Initially, it is a conflict with herself, because it is a question of choice. Then with society, as the heroine has gone through a difficult path to break free from a poor environment. And finally, a conflict with a man — a struggle for her children's happiness,' Grishaeva said, adding with a smile that, as always, 'love conquers all' in the end. She emphasized that this play remains incredibly relevant as a powerful statement about unshakeable family values. Speaking about her stage partner, the actress warmly noted that working with Dmitry Frid has been a true creative success for her. 'He is not only a wonderful artist but also a great person, an amazing partner who is always ready to help. Such partners are a rare find,' Nonna sincerely said. Dmitry Frid, in turn, confessed to TASS that the psychology of his character, Domenico Soriano, is quite understandable to him, although not close. 'He is a capital-E egoist, considers himself the master of his life. We all have certain vices, but in such a manifestation, egoism is not close to me, so I have to internalize these traits,' the actor candidly revealed. He added that the relationships between the characters in the play are built as a tense and sharp confrontation. 'Our characters exist almost in a suspenseful detective story, where each tries to defend their position by any means. The audience can expect serious Italian passions,' Frid promised, anticipating the audience's reaction.## About the PlayThis vibrant production features a whole constellation of talented artists from the ROSTA Theater in Tsaritsyno, including Alexander Nesterov-Leiderman, Sergey Druzyak, Ilya Ilyinikh, Dmitry Chukin, and many others.
