Easter is not just the greatest Christian holiday; it is a day when hearts are filled with faith, joy, and boundless hope. The main greeting, heard everywhere — “Christ is Risen! Truly, He is Risen!” — carries the deepest spiritual meaning, reminding us of the eternal victory of life over death and light over any darkness.
Easter symbolizes the triumph of life over death, granting believers a profound hope for eternal existence and complete spiritual renewal. The Resurrection of Christ fundamentally changes human perception of life, helping to rid us of paralyzing fear, inner burdens, and to attain true peace of soul. “Christ is Risen! Truly, He is Risen!” — with these joyful words we greet each other on this greatest holiday, which the Church rightly calls the feast of feasts.
The Joy of the World and Divine Light
The celebration of Easter permeates "everything and everyone," and even nature itself seems to share in our joy: those who have had the happiness to witness this know how the sun “plays” in a special way on this holy day. However, the most important Sun for us is, of course, not the celestial body, but the risen Christ Himself, shining with inexpressible gracious light. This light becomes accessible to everyone who strives to cleanse their own heart. In these sacred days, the Church calls upon us: cast aside all sorrows, forget about burdensome thoughts and worries. One simply needs to “surrender to the joy of this feast,” allowing the Easter spirit to lift you and carry you forward to eternal life.
Victory over Sorrow and Death
In the Easter hymns, a great and comforting promise resounds: all sorrows will pass, any worries will disappear, and tears will be wiped away. Why can we be so sure of this? Because the risen Lord is with us! His victory is our victory. Christ rose once and for all, and this knowledge should fundamentally transform our attitude towards life and death. For a believer, physical death ceases to be a terrifying and bottomless abyss, turning instead into a “sleep,” through which the soul passes to where the risen Lord Himself resides.
The Path to Inner Peace and “Co-Resurrection”
Often our lives are burdened by mistakes and grievances, and a person carries a weight in their soul that can be difficult to bear. But Christ grants us the joy of eternal life even now — through the life of the Church. This is our “co-resurrection” with Christ. When a person is freed from sin, their soul finds the long-awaited peace and returns to its true purpose — to live in the light of God. The Church preserves countless examples of saints, in whose lives the transformative power of the Resurrection of Christ was fully revealed even here on earth. Among them is Saint Seraphim of Sarov. He greeted everyone who came to him with the words: “Christ is Risen, my joy!” and for those who interacted with him, these were not just words, but a living, tangible reality. Next to him, a person felt deep peace, light, and the quiet joy that the Church calls the foretaste of the Kingdom of God.
May this Easter become a time of deep spiritual renewal for each of us. Let us cast aside despondency, for the great victory has already been granted to us. May the life-giving light of the risen Christ warm our homes and bestow unwavering hope.
Christ is Risen! Truly, He is Risen!
