Adriano Goldschmied Has Died: The Fashion World Bids Farewell to the 'Godfather of Denim' and Creator of Diesel

The renowned Italian designer who gifted the world the iconic brand Diesel and forever changed denim fashion has passed away at the age of 82.

The fashion world is mourning: on April 5, Adriano Goldschmied, the legendary Italian designer who was rightfully called the 'godfather of denim,' passed away at the age of 83. The founder of the iconic brand Diesel died after a long battle with cancer, as reported by WWD.

The Beginning of the Journey and Diesel

Born in 1944 in picturesque Trieste, in northeastern Italy, Adriano initially dreamed of a career as a professional skier. However, fate had other plans: in 1974, he decisively entered the fashion world, launching his first denim brand, Daily Blue. Just a few years later, teaming up with talented Italian entrepreneur Renzo Rosso, Goldschmied launched Diesel – a company destined to become one of the giants of the denim market. In the 1980s, his genius manifested in the creation of the Genious Group, which brought together brands such as Diesel and Replay. Adriano was also actively involved in the establishment and development of many other iconic projects, including Goldsign and the premium Gap 1969 line.
