The Grammy winner has already faced criticism online in 2024 for a series of posts on TikTok.
American pop singer Chappell Roan (real name — Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) reacted to the scandal that erupted on social media surrounding the alleged behavior of her bodyguard in Brazil. The star of the local club Flamengo, Jorginho, previously accused the singer and her bodyguard of bringing his stepdaughter to tears.
According to 34-year-old Jorginho, who previously played for Italian Napoli and English Chelsea, the singer ignored the 11-year-old girl when she recognized her at a hotel restaurant in São Paulo and wanted to talk to her idol.
Shortly after this, the artist's bodyguard approached the table where Jorginho's wife was sitting with their daughter and began to "behave extremely aggressively," causing the child to cry, the footballer claims. It is worth noting that Ada's father is British actor Jude Law, with whom her mother, Irish singer Catherine Harding, was in a relationship before marrying Jorginho.
"I hope you think about this situation. No one deserves to be treated this way, especially a child. Without your fans, you would be nobody," the footballer addressed Roan in an Instagram post.
Roan responded to Jorginho through a video on the same social network. She stated that she was "just having breakfast" and did not notice any actions from fans. The singer emphasized that she did not ask her bodyguard to deal with the child and her mother and is now "upset" about the situation. According to her, the bodyguard was also not part of her personal security team.
"I have no hatred for the fans of my music, I do not hate children — that’s crazy. I apologize to the mother and child for someone misunderstanding the situation and deciding that you were trying to do something. If you experienced discomfort, it greatly upsets me, you did not deserve that," noted the 28-year-old performer of the hits Hot to Go! and Pink Pony Club.
Shortly before the singer's post, the new mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavalieri, joined the discussion of the scandal. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he would not allow Roan to perform in the future at a local festival and invited Jorginho's stepdaughter to it.
Despite the scandal, Roan performed her concert in São Paulo on March 21 without incidents as part of the Lollapalooza Brazil festival, People notes. As the magazine pointed out, the singer stated from the stage that she did not know when she would go on tour again and thanked Brazil for hosting the last show of the tour in this country.
She also expressed gratitude to the "team, security, and musicians" — whether she knew about Jorginho's post at that time is unknown.
The Grammy winner has already faced criticism online in 2024 for a series of posts on TikTok, in which she expressed outrage at the "disgusting behavior" of some fans. She referred to such actions at that time as attempts to call out to her on the street and dissatisfaction in response to her refusal of photos.
"I don’t care if you think it’s selfish of me to refuse photos or hugs. It’s abnormal, it’s weird," the singer stated, using profanity.
