Cardiologist Natalia Solovyeva named four categories of foods that are beneficial for heart health.

First of all, she recommended eating vegetables and greens more often for heart health. Regular consumption of salad, parsley, dill, spinach, sorrel, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, and pumpkin helps normalize blood pressure and combats inflammatory processes, the cardiologist explained.

The second group of foods beneficial for the heart and blood vessels, according to Solovyeva, includes fish from cold seas that contain omega-3 fatty acids: mackerel, salmon, sardines, and herring. Among plant sources of omega-3, the doctor included avocados and olive oil.

The doctor added that fiber-rich whole grains and legumes are also good for the heart. According to her, soluble dietary fibers help bind and eliminate cholesterol from the body.

It is equally important to regularly consume berries and fruits, the cardiologist assured. The antioxidants contained in them help maintain normal blood pressure, preserve the elasticity of blood vessels, and thus protect against the progression of atherosclerosis.

Earlier, cardiologist Tamaz Gagloshvili warned that high readings on the sphygmomanometer in a doctor's office are not always a sign of hypertension. As the doctor explained, there is a so-called "white coat syndrome" — a condition in which a person feels mental tension due to the presence of a doctor and visits to medical institutions.
