Therapist: coffee in cold weather increases the load on the heart.
Therapist Shota Kalandiya warned that consuming coffee in the cold can increase the load on the cardiovascular system.
According to the therapist, coffee becomes particularly dangerous in cold weather. The doctor explained that this happens because caffeine stimulates the production of adrenaline, increases heart rate and blood pressure, and the cold itself is a stressor for the body.
The doctor clarified that at low temperatures, the blood vessels of the skin and extremities reflexively constrict, which increases peripheral resistance and intensifies the load on the heart. If caffeine is added to this, the condition may worsen. The therapist emphasized that this is especially dangerous for people with hypertension, ischemic heart disease, or a tendency to arrhythmias.
In addition, the doctor added that in the cold, the diuretic effect of coffee can enhance dehydration, provoke blood thickening, and worsen its microcirculation. The doctor recommended drinking the beverage in a warm room and choosing moderately strong coffee. For people with heart conditions, it is important to limit caffeine intake during the cold season, concluded the doctor.
