Honored Artist of Russia Sergey Penkin reported that in the past he combined working as a janitor with touring abroad.
According to the popular singer, his workday started at 6:00 AM and ended at 8:00 AM. Right after that, he would go to study at the Gnessin Academy of Music, and in the evenings, he sang in restaurants and cabarets of the hotels "Kosmos," "Intourist," and "Minsk."
In addition, having a job did not prevent Penkin from performing abroad. "I worked as a janitor and at the same time traveled half the world. If I needed to go on tour, I would go to the housing office and say that I was going to the hospital. They would let me go, and two weeks later, I would return tanned. They would ask, 'Where have you been?' Well, I couldn't say that I was touring in Tunisia," the singer said.
He added that at the same time, he had a service apartment in Moscow on Ostozhenka Street, where Zhanna Aguzarova, Yegor Konchalovsky, Alexander Gradsky, Andrei Razin, Stepan Mikhalkov, and Leonid Brezhnev's grandson Andrei would come. "And everyone helped. It was the coolest apartment in Moscow; getting there was considered a blessing," the artist boasted.
