The Latvian Association of Bow Hunters has initiated changes to the Hunting Law to legalize bow hunting in the country. The relevant appeal was sent to the Saeima's Commission on Economic, Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Policy by a group of interested parties.
The current version of the law establishes that bows are included in the list of prohibited hunting tools - in the Hunting Law, they are mentioned alongside crossbows as instruments that are not permitted for hunting.
The proposed changes by the association aim to remove bows from this provision. This would mean that bows would no longer be considered a prohibited hunting tool and could be used in hunting, provided that other regulations do not prohibit this. At the same time, the ban on the use of crossbows would remain in place.
Simultaneously, the association calls for amendments to be made to exclude the word "lokus" (bows) from paragraph 3 of article 32 of the Hunting Law. This provision imposes administrative penalties for the use of prohibited hunting tools, and bows are currently included because they are mentioned in the list of banned instruments.
