The Meshchansky Court of Moscow sentenced Artemy Ostanin: the comedian will spend 5 years and 9 months in a general regime colony and pay a fine of 300,000 rubles for jokes that, according to the investigation, offended the feelings of believers and hinted at a participant in the SVO. Ostanin himself insists that his humor had nothing to do with the military.
Comedian Artemy Ostanin, arrested last spring on charges of extremism after a joke about a disabled person who stepped on a mine, was sentenced to 5 years and 9 months in a general regime colony and fined 300,000 rubles.
The sentence was handed down by the Meshchansky Court of Moscow on two counts: inciting hatred and offending the feelings of believers. In his final statement, Ostanin said he does not understand the verdict and considers himself innocent.
The investigation claimed that the comedian joked about a person with a disability, allegedly referring to a participant in the special operation (SVO), although Ostanin insists that the joke was about "a beggar in the subway on a skateboard without legs" and had nothing to do with the military. The case was initiated after a complaint from the movement "Call of the People."
In March 2025, Ostanin was detained while attempting to leave Russia.
