28-year-old Jacob Elordi is preparing for a career leap.
In the first film by director Denis Villeneuve about agent 007 James Bond, the lead role may be played by 28-year-old Australian Jacob Elordi, known for the series "Euphoria" and the upcoming adaptation of "Wuthering Heights," where his co-star is Margot Robbie. Insider Roger Friedman confirmed the information about Elordi's contacts with Villeneuve and the management of Amazon MGM on the Showbiz 411 website.
The news emerged in the media shortly after the announcement of the 2026 Oscar nominees. Elordi will be nominated for the first time in his career for the award in the category of "Best Supporting Actor" for the film "Frankenstein," in which he played the monster created by the scientist. The awards will be presented on March 15 in Los Angeles.
According to Friedman, Elordi could become the youngest Bond in history; however, producers of the franchise reboot at Amazon reportedly want to bet on youth.
Social media users have joked that Elordi, standing at 1.96 m (6 feet 5 inches), will also be the tallest agent 007, who will likely find it difficult to hide even from the International Space Station (ISS).
The actor will not be the first Australian to play the British secret agent — in 1969, another Australian native, George Lazenby, played Bond in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." He remains the only actor to have portrayed Bond in just one film.
By the way, Lazenby currently holds the record for being the youngest 007 — he was 29 years old at the time of filming.
The publication World of Reel notes that as early as last fall, it heard about the producers' desire to invite Elordi, against whom director Villeneuve, known for "Dune" and "Blade Runner 2049," had no objections.
It was assumed that Elordi would still audition, and the studio would publicly announce its final decision by mid-2026. The publication claims, citing its sources, that the previously rumored 35-year-old Englishman Callum Turner will also participate in the auditions.
43-year-old British-Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed joked at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah that he is also hoping for the role.
"I don't care who plays Bond, as long as it's me," Ahmed told Variety and jokingly jumped up when a colleague passed him the rumors about Elordi.
