The Russian Patriarch Gundyayev spoke about a strong intoxication in which he realized that there were "enemies of the church" in the seminary.
Patriarch Gundyayev shared a story about himself and two bottles of cognac. According to the head of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), he drank this strong alcoholic beverage while being a seminary student. At that time, he was invited for a four-hour conversation by a representative for religious affairs. During the conversation under the influence of alcohol, Gundyayev realized that he was engaging in dialogue with a person who was "by nature an enemy of the church."
"But if he treats a student like that and talks for four hours, then something can be done. And believe me, despite very unfavorable conditions, we did a lot," said the head of the ROC, specifying that his story is meant to help understand a bygone era.
Earlier, Patriarch Kirill called for punishing Russians for swearing and recalled the Soviet practice when people were arrested for 15 days for swearing in public.
