The Englishwoman previously supported Ukraine with all her might.
The star of the series "Game of Thrones," Emilia Clarke, faced sharp criticism from social media users for her role in the series "Pony," which is set in Russia in 1977. Clarke's character is the secretary of the American embassy in Moscow, whose husband dies in a plane crash in the Moscow region under unclear circumstances.
Together with a colleague (Hailee Lou Richardson), whose husband died in the same accident, Clarke's character begins her own investigation as a CIA agent. The showrunners of the project are Susanna Fogel, the creator of the series about Anne Frank "Little Light," and David Iserson, who directed the show "Mr. Robot."
Social media users criticized Emilia Clarke, whose character speaks Russian. From their perspective, today, when Russia is waging war in Ukraine, the actress should not have participated in a project set in Moscow, even if it is a spy thriller set in the 1970s.
Emilia Clarke herself admits that it was very difficult for her to act in Russian. She does not speak Russian, and before filming, she had to hire a tutor who brought her to tears in the very first lesson. In an interview, the actress shares that after her role in "Game of Thrones," where she had to speak in fictional languages – Dothraki and Valyrian – she thought that learning her lines in Russian would not be so difficult. However, in the end, working on her pronunciation turned out to be a very challenging task.

In February 2022, the actress responded to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On her Instagram, Emilia posted a photo with her dog Ted, as well as with the team from her previous project. Everyone was wearing T-shirts with the Ukrainian flag. Under the photo, she stated that she supports Ukraine and suggested several ways to help Ukrainians financially by purchasing these T-shirts and photographs taken by her friend in Kyiv, as well as directly donating to charities: "My heart breaks along with many others due to the ongoing suffering, pain, and broken hearts that millions of people are experiencing in Ukraine."
