Telegraph: A scandal has erupted in the EU country of Sweden over Belarusian "spy nuns."
A scandal has erupted in Sweden over the invitation of sisters from the Belarusian St. Elizabeth Convent to Christmas events, who have been accused of spying for Russia. This was reported by The Telegraph.
"Sisters from the notorious Belarusian women's monastery, allegedly linked to Kremlin intelligence, are said to be stoking a cynical propaganda war," the publication states.
The sisters, referred to by the publication as "spy nuns," were invited to a church event in the suburb of Taby, Stockholm. According to the parish priest Michael Oreimo, the accusations of espionage are false, as the media has not provided serious evidence for this. However, the vicar faced significant criticism for these words.
As early as late November 2025, the Church of Sweden urged its parishes not to invite the sisters from this convent to various events, as they are allegedly in close contact with Russian intelligence, the publication notes.
