Mickey Rourke posted a video message to his followers on Instagram, sharply criticizing the fundraising campaign for him. Earlier, information surfaced that the 73-year-old actor had started a fundraising effort to pay off his rent debt in Los Angeles.
In the video, Rourke appeared in a pink T-shirt and cowboy hat, holding his dog Lucky. He stated that he is "upset" and "confused," and also "doesn't understand" why someone decided to create a fundraiser on the crowdfunding platform GoFundMe in his name. "This is not my initiative. If I needed money, I wouldn't beg. I would rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger," the actor noted.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the campaign in question was created by Leah-Joel Jones, Rourke's assistant manager, Kimberly Hines. This was allegedly done to help the actor stay in his home after he was served an eviction notice due to a rent debt of $60,000.
The announcement claimed that the fundraiser was created with "Mickey's full permission" and that over $100,000 had been raised so far. However, in his video, Mickey called this campaign "shameful," adding: "But I will survive this, like everything else."
It is clarified that at the end of December, Rourke indeed received an eviction notice with a three-day deadline. According to the Los Angeles Times, he did not leave the house by the specified date, and the landlord filed a lawsuit for damages and legal costs. At the end of his address, Rourke asked those who had already made donations to get their money back: "I wouldn't do that. I have too much pride."
