Бабушка Вера любит быть в центре внимания.

I wonder why she hasn’t had breast surgery, given her means?

Vera Wang, despite her age — she will turn 77 this year — does not miss important social events. The designer appeared at the Met Gala in a white dress with a feathered skirt. However, it was not this part of the 'look' that sparked discussion, but the revealing neckline that ended at her navel. This choice elicited a strong reaction from the public: some users criticized the outfit, while others defended the designer.

"This dress does not suit Vera Wang. I wonder why she hasn’t had breast surgery, given her means? She has no breasts at all"; "Vera should take a look at her passport…"; "It’s scary to look at Vera’s image. She overdid it"; "Let her wear what she wants, since she can afford it"; "I certainly wouldn’t want my grandmother to dress like that, but… Vera wanted to shock, and she succeeded," people wrote online.

Vera Ellen Wang was born on June 27, 1949, and grew up in New York City. She is of Chinese descent. Her parents were born in Shanghai and came to the United States in the mid-1940s. Unlike most Chinese immigrants in the U.S., Vera's parents were members of the elite (both grandfathers were Chinese generals, one of whom was even a minister of war in the government of Chiang Kai-shek). Although the Wangs did not deny themselves anything, Vera was not spoiled at home and was taught to work hard. Her mother, Florence U., worked as a translator at the United Nations, while her father, Wang Chengqing, owned a medical company that produced special health products. Wang has a younger brother, Wang Kenneth. She graduated from Chapin School in 1967, studied at the Sorbonne, and received a degree in art history from Sarah Lawrence College. Wang began figure skating at the age of six.

While in high school, she trained in pairs skating with partner James Stewart and participated in figure skating competitions in the U.S. in 1968. She became the cover girl for Sports Illustrated on January 9, 1968. When she did not make the U.S. Olympic team, she left for the fashion industry. Her father, Cheng Ching Wang, co-owner of the multimillion-dollar corporation US Summit, countered her words "I want to be a designer" with, "If you really want to get into the fashion industry, prove it and first find yourself a job."

She married Arthur Becker in 1989. When Becker proposed to her, she already knew a lot about the fashion world and understood that if she bought a dress in a store, she would see a dozen others like it. So she decided to create her own wedding dress. And she did not regret it. After that, all the most famous brides in America began to turn to her. They lived in Manhattan with their two daughters: Cecilia (born 1990), who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, and Josephine (born 1993), who graduated from Harvard University. Becker was the CEO of an IT company called NaviSite until August 2010. In July 2012, the couple announced their separation.

On June 27, 2022, Vera Wang celebrated her own 73rd birthday in style. She threw a party in 'pink' color, serving prosecco from her own brand. A new line of Wang Party was presented at the celebration.
