One of the largest jackpots in lottery history has been won in the U.S. - a resident of Arkansas won $1.817 billion in the Christmas drawing by guessing six numbers.
For comparison: the healthcare budget of Latvia is projected to be approximately €1.9 billion for 2025.
An American purchased a Powerball lottery ticket and selected the numbers 4, 25, 31, 52, and 59 in the Christmas drawing, which turned out to be winning numbers. This is the second-largest win in U.S. history, according to ABC News.
Now the winner can choose between a lump-sum cash payment of $834.9 million or receiving the full prize amount in monthly payments over 30 years.
This jackpot became the second prize this year exceeding one billion dollars. In September, two Powerball lottery tickets won a total of $1.787 billion — the third-largest prize in U.S. lottery history. According to Powerball data, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in more than 292 million.
The record was set in 2022 when California resident Edwin Castro won $2.04 billion and entered the Guinness World Records.
