From 'Harry Potter' to Sitcom: How Past Roles Helped Daniel Radcliffe Land a New Comedy Role

Even in the new sitcom, Daniel Radcliffe won't be able to escape the world of wizards. The 36-year-old 'Harry Potter' actor will star in the upcoming comedy series by Tina Fey, 'The Rise and Fall of Reggie Dinkins.' Radcliffe will appear in the new comedy as award-winning filmmaker Arthur Tobin, whom Reggie (actor Tracy Morgan) hires to create a documentary about his life after his scandalous exit from the NFL.

One of the creators of the sitcom, Robert Carlock, told Entertainment Weekly that Radcliffe was their first choice for the role of Arthur precisely because of his past projects. “He has made some surprisingly strange choices in his career after 'Harry Potter', and I like to think that this is one of them — participating in a sitcom,” Carlock stated. “But he is a very busy person. He is a national treasure. We just didn’t know if he would be available, but he liked everything, and the stars aligned.”

Radcliffe didn’t know that the role was written specifically for him, but he noticed some similarities between his early career and that of his character. “I think part of me thought, 'Yes, they wrote a very specific English character connected to big movies and blue screen technology,'” the actor noted. Nevertheless, Daniel was very flattered to learn that the team working on the sitcom wanted to see him in the project so much.
