After stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to earn independently, often using their titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex for commercial projects. The royal family disapproves of this. Perhaps that is why the couple still cannot mend relationships with some relatives.
According to royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, the continued use of titles may also reduce the chances of a full reconciliation. And Meghan, it seems, has no intention of giving up the title of "Duchess of Sussex," frequently reminding everyone of this in documentaries and in her lifestyle reality show on Netflix, "With Love, Meghan."
In a conversation with Fox News Digital, Kinsey Schofield noted:
"Harry and Meghan's confidence that they could leave the royal family was based on their perceived popularity. They will continue to put themselves out there because they need to make money, but Meghan's commercial ambitions contradict Harry's desire to restore his relationship with the royal family. As long as she uses her title for business purposes, the royal family will keep their distance. And as long as the family maintains distance, Harry's popularity will continue to decline."
The titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex were bestowed upon the couple by Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day in 2018. Now, only the reigning King Charles III can strip them of their titles, but he is unlikely to do so.
