Johnny Depp to Star in the First English-Language Adaptation of 'The Master and Margarita'

The first English-language adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's novel has officially entered production, with Johnny Depp taking the lead role in the project. The actor will also serve as a producer for the upcoming film — it is being created under the aegis of his studio IN.2 Film.

The new project was presented at an international film festival in Saudi Arabia. The film is being produced by Svetlana Dali, Grace Lo, Natasha Rogal, and Konstantin Elkin. The name of the director has not yet been announced, but filming is planned to begin next year.

Svetlana Dali previously collaborated with Depp on the historical drama 'Jeanne du Barry' and the upcoming biographical film 'Modi: Three Days on the Wings of Madness'. According to the producers, the new adaptation promises to be one of the most ambitious international projects in the actor's career.

For Depp, participation in the film is an important creative milestone. After prolonged legal battles and a pause in major Hollywood projects, the actor is returning to work on a significant international production. Western media describe his involvement in the adaptation as "an unexpected but intriguing decision."

The novel 'The Master and Margarita', published after Bulgakov's death, is among the most important works of the 20th century and has been translated into more than 40 languages. However, there has not yet been a Western adaptation of the book — Depp's project will be the first.
